Kraków (or Cracow in English, and Cracovie in French) itself is the second largest and one of the oldest cities in Poland. Its history, dating back to the 7th century, is wrapped in legends and still surprises visitors with its unique remnants – hundreds of places worth seeing and experiencing. Kraków has traditionally been one of the leading scientific, cultural and artistic centres of the country and Europe. It drawn great scholars and artists from the whole world. It is their talents and imagination we must thank for the city's rich legacy of unique historical relics, which reflect the most important trends in continental culture. As the former national capital and the seat of kings, the city remains the spiritual heart of Poland. It is still a major centre of local and international tourism, attracting seven million visitors annually. Famous landmarks include the Main Market Square (being the largest medieval town square in Europe) with St. Mary's Basilica and Sukiennice Cloth Hall, Wawel Castle with armory, art museums (where you can see works of artists like Leonardo da Vinci), Zygmunt Bell at Wawel Cathedral, and medieval Florian Gate with Barbican along the Royal Coronation Route.
